Whats the purpose of the screen?...and removing it? I just installed a PowerAid TBS last weekend...I didnt remove the screen, (oops??) nor did I have any fan clearance issues. It does however make the plastic cover fit less than perfectly, but it still goes back on. I purchased the TBS mainly with the hopes it would improve my milage. I will post an update on my mpg next week after my 300 mile roadtrip this weekend....
PS I know the TBS says "the whistle lets you know its workin" but mine sounds like an air leak...is that the "whistle", or did I install it incorrectly??

if you didnt put the rubber O ring in it might sound like a leak, but it def has a whistle. the issue w/ the spacer wasnt with fan clearance its just a matter of having enough space for the intake tube.

I used the rubber O-ring supplied with the TBS....2 tankfuls of gas, so far no measurable improvement in gas milage....I think I spent $100 for an intake whistle....lol

hey puff, you might not notice fuel mileage increases, but you should notice a little extra power when passing vehicles on the hwy
wheelinjeeper, why would you want to remove your throttle body? that's part of the fuel delivery system.

The screen is most likely there to prevent the trunk from injecting things that shouldn't be sucked into engines...IE dirt, leaves, skittles, etc.
You could probably remove it for more airflow, but the gains probably wouldn't outweigh the safety feature of the screen.

I'd prolly agree with your assessment if the screen covered the entire intake, but it only covers the top 1/2 ..?????

Nobody I know of has any real idea why the screen is there. As mentioned it only covers half of the TB and the holes in the screen are too big to stop anything smaller than a skittle. As for removing it, some people claim it helped when they did, but I have never done this mod, so I am just passing along the info.
If you don't have an aftermarket CAI (Volant or K&N) then I don't think there are any fitment issues with the stock intake and a TBS.
And yes I have heard the whistle before on a friend's truck and it is more of a hair raising screech than a whistle. This is the very reason why I am not going to do this to my truck, even if it did give me 1 mpg or a small power gain.
