Yeah it seems like they ought to be able to devise a system that would shut off 2 or possibly 4 cylinders when cruising on the hwy to save gas. Many years ago it seems like I recall a Ford salesman telling me that their F150 would cut off 4 cylinders if it was overheating.

Seems like I heard that also not too long ago, about bigger trucks being able to cut half the cylinders off when cruising on highway, just can't remember for what name of truck. I think it would help in mpg, and maybe before too long we'll have biofuels.
