I had an issue with a my 2005 Titan SE where the on board computer controlling the fuel system failed at 75000 miles and placed the car into "limp mode".  Since the vehicle was out of warranty I took it to the closest local "high reputation," as rated by BBB mechanic, who did diagnose the problem but was not able to repair the vehicle.  He could order the computer module (which in my opinion, should not have failed at 75000 miles) and install it but he couldn't "task" or "reboot" or program the module as ONLY Nissan had the software, and thus, I had to have the vehicle towed to the Nissan dealership where I had already had it towed to the original mechanic too to have it repaired.  Consequently, my insurance company won't cover my towing expense since they said it should have been brought to Nissan first - typical insurance crapola.

This I believe is wrong, creates a "monopoly" for Nissan, cuts out the private mechanic and, I believe, may be against "Anti-Trust Laws.  Or am I just being naive?  Has anyone else out there had a similar problem with any of the on board computer modules (of which, I believe there are at least 4 or 5)?  I'm eager to find out as this was not a cheap repair and if it is against Anti Trust Laws, a class action suit against may be needed.
